More than 2 million people take the IELTS test each year to demonstrate their English-language
proficiency. Scores can range from 0 to 9, with most academic institutes requiring scores ranging IELTS
6 to IELTS 7. People who take the test are generally:
- Students planning to study at a higher education institution
- English-language learning program admissions and exit
- Scholarship and certification candidates
- English-language learners who want to track their progress
- Students and workers applying for visas
Important! There are two modules to choose from – Academic for IELTS Academic is for test takers wishing to
study at undergraduate or postgraduate levels, and General Training. for test takers wishing to migrate to
an English-speaking country (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK). As of April 2015, you may only use UKVI
tests if you wish to apply to UK universities or organizations. Each organization sets its own entry
requirements. In some cases both Academic or General Training may be accepted. If you are in doubt as to
which to take, you should contact the organization you are applying to in order to check their requirements.
